Top Questions
-
What is the Kinoped?
The Kinoped is a multifaceted, VR-guided lower-extremity robotic exoskeleton designed for advanced biometric assessment, rehabilitation, and athletic performance optimization. Featuring seven degrees of freedom (DoF) per leg, this highly programmable system can be customized to operate in both active and passive modes to meet diverse clinical and research needs.
-
Who is the Kinoped for?
The Kinoped is built to scale with the entire lifecycle of human movement science across 10 distinct markets. Our initial users are Principal Investigators (PIs) and University Researchers who leverage the system's infinite movement patterns and high-fidelity data collection to design and execute clinical studies. As these research labs discover and validate efficacious new protocols, the Kinoped serves as the direct bridge to the wider athletic and clinical community. This allows sports scientists, elite performance coaches, and injury rehabilitation specialists to immediately deploy the latest evidence-based methodologies to their clients and patients without delay.
Ultimately, our long-term vision is to bring the Kinoped to all people—from elite athletes and the general population to the most vulnerable clinical communities. We believe everyone should have direct access to a platform where they can seamlessly practice and deploy research-backed protocols to optimize their own physical health and long-term vitality.

How are the FAQs chosen?
Our FAQs are curated directly from real-world conversations with the researchers, clinicians, and organizations we speak with every day. Whether we connected in-person at WCB 2026 or chatted through online channels, we use your actual inquiries to keep this resource continuously updated.
Have a question that we haven't covered yet? We'd love to hear it! Please Contact Us directly, and our team will get right back to you with the answers you need.
-
How much space does the platform need?
Kinoped is a self-contained floor platform sized for a standard lab or training bay. Detailed siting and clearance specifications are available in the functional-requirements white paper.
Research & Validation
-
Where's the proof?
We proudly host all of our latest white papers, literature reviews, academic citations, and upcoming publications right here in the Evidence section of our website. Because our clinical testing and engineering validation are ongoing, these resources are living repositories that get updated on a regular basis as new data emerges.
-
Do you collaborate with academic partners?
Yes. Our foundational academic partnership is with Biomechanigg Sport & Health Research, a team of leading biomechanics specialists based out of the University of Calgary. Biomechanigg has provided critical human anthropometric sizing, range of motion (ROM), and force literature reviews that have directly guided the baseline design and engineering process of the Kinoped. Moving forward, they will remain deeply involved as an integral part of our ongoing development and empirical validation phases.
As the Kinoped platform and its core architecture expand across diverse markets, we are actively looking to establish additional academic partnerships. Our guiding philosophy is to always follow where the scientific evidence takes us, and we welcome collaborations with institutions/organizations dedicated to pioneering credible, high-level research.

Hardware
-
What does “7 DoF per leg” mean?
The latest iteration of the Kinoped features 7 high-performance electric motors per leg, positioned at the true axis of rotation for each major lower extremity joint: 3 at the hip, 1 at the knee, and 3 at the ankle. This precise configuration allows the device to accommodate nearly 100% of natural human range of motion (ROM) while delivering highly responsive, variable force output across each individual Degree of Freedom (DoF). By controlling and monitoring movement right at the joint source, the Kinoped enables unrestricted, full-kinetic-chain movement patterns with programmable, variable resistance across all planes, in active and/or passive modes.
-
How are safety limits and overload handled?
Load is bounded to a prescribed envelope and ramped on a documented curve, with the subject's kinematics recorded the whole way. The narrow, auditable envelope is what makes controlled load safe to prescribe.

What is KinoStudio?
KinoStudio is the foundational software and data ecosystem engineered specifically for researchers to control and operate the Kinoped device. It allows investigators with absolutely no prior robotic programming experience to design, manage, and execute complex biomechanics studies from start to finish within a single interface. By automating and tracking the entire research workflow, KinoStudio eliminates human error and standardizes lab sessions into reproducible protocols. All study, session, and subject data are securely housed within our proprietary data lake, giving researchers the flexibility to save their data on the cloud or export it locally for deeper analysis.
